Customer Advisory Regarding a Potential Canada Post Work Disruption
Posted on June 27, 2016 by Rankine’s Remedies
As some of you may be aware of, our primary parcel shipper – Canada Post Corporation - could be five days away from a lock out or strike. Labour negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have been ongoing since late 2015, and the parties are now in the final stretch. No legal work disruption can occur until July 2, 2016.
Canada Post is warning unionized workers that any type of job action including rotating strikes this long weekend will mean the shutdown of the post office.
“In the event of a labour disruption, Canada Post will not operate,” the crown corporation said Monday. “Mail and parcels will not be delivered, and no new items will be accepted.
While there is still time to reach new agreements, a legal work disruption could occur as early as Saturday, July 2, 2016.
We understand the impact a Canada Post work disruption would have on our wonderful customers and are therefore doing everything possible to bring our UPS, FedEx and Purolator courier shipping services online and up to speed.
Until we know what the operational status of Canada Post will be on July 2, 2016 we have suspended taking any product orders from outside North America. We will continue to process orders from Canada and the USA and ship using alternative courier delivery services. Our first UPS and FedEx orders were processed and shipped on Monday, June 27.
Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time.

Late on June 28, CUPW sent a letter to Canada Post requesting a two-week extension of the “cooling-off” period that is part of the conciliation process and which expires at the end of July 1, 2016.
